The award was given against the backdrop of strong competition from a variety of offshore vessels built worldwide in 2011.

Vessel owner “North Sea Shipping”, designers “Sawicon” and builders “Metalships and Docks” were presented with the award at London on Wednesday 15.02.2012 at a gala dinner.

The vessel was given the prize for its innovative features, including very high redundancy and station keeping capabilities.

The North Sea Giant is amongst the largest and most advanced Offshore Construction Vessels ever built. It is a multi-purpose vessel with supreme deck and crane capacity.

Some of its special features include its five Voith Schneider propellers, giving the vessel extremely good station keeping capabilities and low fuel consumption in DP mode.

The vessel also has three separate engine / power systems, allowing it to maintain DP 3 operation with one engine room / power system out of service.

North Sea Shipping AS, is a family owned and private company located in Bakkasund, Norway. The company has owned and managed advanced offshore vessels since 1984. The company fully operates two offshore vessels today, and has part ownership in nine offshore vessels and two fishing vessels, in addition to the fully owned North Sea Giant.
